Meet our Providers

 Franklin Tolbert, MD

Dr. Tolbert has provided health care in the town of Advance since 1991. He is board certified in family medicine.  Prior to medical school he completed his bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology at Clinch Valley of the University of Virginia in Wise, Virginia.  He continued his medical training receiving his medical degree from the Medical College of Virginia.

Dr. Tolbert completed his family medicine internship and residency at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

Dr. Tolbert enjoys teaching and sharing his medical skills; therefore, you may see a medical student, physician assistant student, or resident shadowing him while he is seeing patients. Dr. Tolbert is an avid bluegrass music lover.
 

When not in the office you may find him listening to blue grass music at the annual “Merle Fest” festival or playing his own guitar. He also enjoys reading and spending time with his two grown sons

 
 

 Ryan Vann, PA-C

Ryan is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). He earned a bachelor of science degree in Biology and a bachelor of science degree in Clinical Laboratory Science from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After working as a Medical Technologist for two years, he continued his studies obtaining a Master of Health Sciences from the Physician Assistant program at Duke University in Durham, NC.

Ryan enjoys caring for patients of all ages and has special interest in young children and adolescents.  He enjoys women’s health, geriatrics, and routine health screenings and health maintenance. He believes that the patient and health care provider should work as a team making decisions to stay or get healthy. It is his goal to listen and support his patients in their right to have control over their own healthcare.

When not in the office Ryan and his wife, both avid UNC fans, enjoy attending UNC football and basketball games.  He also enjoys reading, attending and being involved in his church, and working out.

 


 Gemekia Parker, FNP

Gemekia Parker has over 10 years of nursing experience. She received her Bachelors of Nursing from North Carolina A&T State University, completed her Masters of Science in Nursing at Gardner-Webb University. She earned her post Masters Family Nurse Practitioner Certificate from East Carolina University.She is Board Certified by the NC Board of Nursing. She has experience in hemodialysis, medical surgery, and rehabilitation and skilled nursing facility nursing.

Gemekia believes in providing the best patient care and education to prevent disease with special emphasis on geriatrics and primary care.

In her personal time, she enjoys spending time with her family, aerobics, walking and vacationing at the beach.
