Research studies enrolling participants:

1. Search for Hereditary Prostate Cancer Genes

We are recruiting families with at least three immediate family members who have prostate cancer. To improve the chances of tracing hereditary prostate cancer genes as they are passed through a family, we hope to include as many family members as possible.

Participants in our research are asked to complete questionnaires, release medical records, and donate a blood sample one time. We carefully explain this research project to each participant during an informed consent process.

If you think you might qualify for this study, you may download a screening questionaire by clicking here, or you may contact Aubrey Turner, the study coordinator.

2. Search for Hereditary Prostate Cancer Genes in the Ashkenazi Jewish Population

A new Wake Forest study will focus on Ashkenazi Jewish families with three or more individuals who have had prostate cancer. Although Jewish ancestry does not predispose to the development of prostate cancer, the Ashkenazi Jewish population is vital to this study. This is because of the historical tendency for Ashkenazi Jews to marry other Ashkenazi Jews, certainly among past generations. This tendency increases the likelihood that most of the Ashkenazi Jewish families that qualify for participation in this study will have the same prostate cancer genes. Therefore, we are more likely to successfully identify prostate cancer genes by focusing on families with Ashkenazi Jewish background.

Participants in our research are asked to complete questionnaires, release medical records, and donate a blood sample one time. We carefully explain this research project to each participant during an informed consent process.
