The Hypertension & Vascular Research Center welcomes our newest U.S.-Brazil Consortia Biomedical Sciences Exchange Program participants.
Danielle Dias: Danielle is a fourth year student at the Universidade Sáo Judas Tadeu in Sáo Paulo, studying biological sciences and health in the Physical Education Program. She works in the Laboratorio do Movimento Humano where she performs research in exercise physiology exercise and cardiovascular physiology working with ovariectomized female rats. Danielle will work along with Amy Arnold, a graduate student, and Dr. Debra Diz the Hypertension & Vascular Research Center.
Leandro Dias Leandro is a fourth year student at the Universidade Sáo Judas Tadeu in Sao Paulo. He is studying exercise physiology and cardiovascular physiology in adolescents or adults with obesity. Leandro will work along with Drs. Hossam Shaltout and Debra Diz in the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center.
Fernanda Dreher: Fernanda is a fourth year medical student at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sol in Puerto Alegro where she studies the relationship between oxidative stress and cardiovascular disease. She will work along with Drs. George Kulik and Hannah Caldas in the Department of Cancer Biology.
Luiz Machado Luiz is a sixth year medical student at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais School of Medicine in Belo Horizonte. His research encompasses the evaluation of the role of the renin-angiotensin system and the mechanisms of blood pressure variability-induced cardiac hypertrophy and dysfunction in mice with impaired baroreflex by sinoaortic baroreceptor denervation. He is presently working with Drs. Ann Tallant and Patricia Gallagher in the Hypertensive and Vascular Research Center.
Mariana Rossette: Mariana is a fourth year medical student at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais School of Medicine in Belo Horizonte. Her research was related to the evaluation of the role of the renin-angiotensin system in different brain areas related to the control of the sympathetic drive in normotensive and hypertensive rats. She presently works with Drs. Ann Tallant and Patricia Gallagher in the Hypertension & Vascular Research Center.
The U.S.-Brazil Consortia for Biomedical Science Exchange includes Wright State University and Central State University in Ohio, Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. The purpose of the program is to train U.S. students in integrative biology and to strengthen interchange of cultural and scientific values to widen the horizons of participants. Under-represented minorities are encouraged to apply.
