Research Description:
Neuroendocrine aspects of hypertension
Vascular biology
Pregnancy and hormone replacement
Current Research:
Her laboratory studies the role of hormones in the control of blood pressure and vascular reactivity. She uses physiological and pharmacological approaches to study cardiovascular and hormonal consequences of pregnancy and the role of estrogen. Biochemical methods allow the measurement of tissue and circulating levels of neuroendocrine hormones. Research approaches in her laboratory study the mechanism of synthesis and secretion of angiotensin peptides from a number of local tissues. Dr. Brosnihan has published over 18 chapters and 100 manuscripts. She has maintained an uninterrupted record of funding from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute of the NIH from 1984.
