Finding Articles

Searching PubMed allows you to see what has been published in the medical field on any given subject. If you want to order copies of a journal article from a local library, use Loansome Doc.

Health Source Consumer Edition provides abstracts and indexing for 500 consumer health, nutrition and professional magazines. Over 200 magazines and 1,000 pamphlets are covered in full text. Includes USP DI Volume II, Advice for the Patient, and 17 health books published by the People's Medical Society.  



Patient Handouts

CDC Health Topics A to Z The Center for Disease Control and Prevention provides a listing of disease and health topics found on the CDC Web site.

Go Ask ALice! is a database of medical Questions and Answers organized by Columbia University's Health Education Program. The mission of Go Ask Alice! is to provide factual, in-depth, straight-forward, and nonjudgmental information to assist readers' decision-making about their physical, sexual, emotional, and spiritual health.

Medical Conditions A to Z is from the American Academy of Family Physicians and offers handouts on health topics, kids health, self-care, finding a doctor, etc.

NIH Health Information is available from the National Institutes of Health. The site is a listing of consumer health publications provided by various health-related agencies.

Patient Notes are handouts that physicians can give patients to help answer their questions. Each one describes a common medical problem, in language patients will appreciate, and typically includes clear and simple advice as well. One (and sometimes more) appears in each issue of Postgraduate Medicine.
