Ryan White HIV Primary Care and Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic

The Ryan White HIV Primary Care and Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic (IDSC) is the primary outpatient clinic and is one of the largest infectious diseases clinics in the state, following approximately 1,200 patients with HIV. Clinical services and research initiatives at the IDSC are being expanded through Ryan White funding to include a dental clinic and an HIV secondary prevention initiative. Faculty members, including P. Samuel Pegram, M.D.; Aimee M. Wilkin, M.D., M.P.H.; and Marina Núñez, M.D., Ph.D.; are nationally recognized for their expertise in HIV research and clinical care. The Section has one satellite clinic in High Point, NC.
The Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic provides comprehensive services for HIV positive adults, age 18 years or older, including: - HIV/AIDS specialty medical, nursing and pharmacy care

| HIGHLIGHTS
The Ryan White HIV Primary Care and Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic has been in operation for 25 years. Any adult who is HIV positive and is 18 years or older, may receive care at the clinic regardless of his/her insurance status or ability to pay. All HIV-positive patients receive financial counseling in the clinic. Sliding scale billing may be arranged based on a patient's income. This clinic offers comprehensive primary care to HIV positive adults. In some cases, the patient may be referred to his/her family or primary care physician if he/she has multiple medical diagnoses and has access to another physician. Referrals to a family physician may be made as medically indicated.

Scheduling Appointments
All Clinic visits are by appointment only. Appointments are scheduled from 7:40 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. all weekdays except Thursdays when appointments are scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Limited appointments are also scheduled Friday afternoons from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In most cases, patients are accepted to the clinic only by referral from a physician or medical professional. Physician or medical professionals can arrange a clinic appointment by calling 336-716-2700. Patients who are HIV-positive and who are seeking clinic services may be scheduled without a referral in some cases but must contact 336-716-2700 for information and evaluation.
Cancellations
If you are unable to keep your scheduled appointment, please call 336-716-2700 no later than 24 hours prior to your appointment so we may use this time for another patient.
Insurance
HIV-positive patients who are insured and those with Medicare/Medicaid coverage are welcome in the clinic as are those who have no insurance or income.
Prescription Refills
The clinic maintains an automated prescription refill request line that can be accessed 24 hours a day by calling 336-716-2700. After-hours refill requests will be reviewed and followed up on the following clinic operations day

Calls and Messages
The clinic staffs a nurse line during normal operating hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays (except holidays). Specially trained, registered nurses evaluate all patient calls and coordinate patient care needs with medical providers and other clinic team members. Every effort is made to handle and resolve patient calls the same day. Please call 336-716-2700 to access this nurse line.
After Hours Calls
After hours calls go directly to The Medical Center's Health On Call® registered nurses. Patient needs are evaluated and the on-call physician contacted immediately if warranted. Non-urgent concerns will be handled the next clinic operations day.
Emergencies
If you have a medical emergency, go directly to the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center Emergency Department or your nearest emergency room. Upon your arrival, notify the staff that you are a patient in the Infectious Diseases Specialty Clinic and give your physician’s name.

Following a patient visit, detailed clinic transcripts are automatically forwarded electronically (when possible) or by mail to a patient's referring physician or medical provider. Additional telephone communication may also be arranged as medically warranted.
