The Key to Success

The key to success with any exercise program is finding an exercise you enjoy and scheduling regular exercise sessions. The following questions may help:

  • Do you like to exercise alone or with other people?
  • Do you prefer to exercise outdoors, at home or in a gym?
  • How much money are you willing to spend on equipment or facilities?
  • When can you best fit activity into your schedule?

Once you have planned your exercise, build up your level of activity slowly over the next few weeks. If exercising outside, dress appropriately for the weather. In cold weather, wear layers so that you can remove a layer if you get too warm. In summer, wear light loose fitting clothing exercise earlier in the morning or in the evening. Always drink plenty of water and watch for the signs of heat stroke:

  • feeling dizzy, weak, lightheaded, and/or excessively tired
  • sweating stops
  • body temperatures become excessively high

Remember, almost anyone can safely and reap the benefits with a little planning and by finding types of exercise you can enjoy for a lifetime.
