Hand Therapy Center

First in the Triad

The Hand Therapy Center at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center provides excellence in the rehabilitative care of people with upper extremity injuries or disease processes. As an integral component of the Hand Center team, our hand therapists work closely with our nationally and internationally recognized hand surgeons utilizing advanced surgical techniques and therapeutic interventions to maximize restoration of function in individuals with injured and diseased upper extremities. Patients typically seen in the Hand Therapy Center include those with upper extremity trauma, such as crush injuries and fractures; those with cumulative trauma, such as tendonitis and carpal tunnel syndrome; those with natural disease processes, such as rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis; and those with congenital anomalies.

After comprehensive evaluation, our hand therapists educate patients on their particular problems and their different treatment options.  Treatment options may include wound care and scar management, customized static and dynamic splinting, sensory re-education, desensitization and customized home programs. The staff also interacts with other specialties including psychology, social work, case management and vocational rehabilitation to ensure the most appropriate care for each patient.
