Summer Research Opportunities (SROP) for Undergraduate Students
Rising undergraduate junior and senior science majors may participate in research performed at the Wake Forest University Graduate School through the SROP. During the eight-week experience, students will be exposed to basic lab techniques, technology used in biomedical research, data collection procedures, and rules of documentation. To learn more about the SROP, visit this link to the Graduate School web site. Opportunities for undergraduate research in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology are available with the following faculty:
· Rajendar Deora, Ph.D.
Bordetella pathogenesis
· Elizabeth Hiltbold Schwartz, Ph.D.
Bacterial Pathogenesis and Antigen Presentation
· Sean D. Reid, Ph.D.
Research opportunities are available to study the extracellular pathogen Streptococcus pyogenes. Areas of focus include studying how S. pyogenes evades the host immune response and how it colonizes the host mucosa.
