Research Interests: Genetic epidemiology of complex human disease Current Research:
We are researching the basic mechanisms that predispose to, and protect from, common disease in humans using a combination of statistical genetic and genetic epidemiological approaches. From this information, we are evaluating the impact of genetically inherited surrogate markers for the development of disease that precedes actual disease onset. In this fashion, we can investigate ways of modulating or preventing the development of the disease process in genetically susceptible individuals as part of a rational approach to the prevention of common disease, including the genetic basis of type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes and its complications (micro- and macro-vascular disease), and stroke.
