Current Research:
Dr. Mishra's research interests include epigenetics, chromatin remodeling, transcriptional regulation, gene expression and identifying therapeutic targets by proteomics in lupus. He believes that the histone modification circus comprises balancing acts fundamental to human biology and diseases. He recently demonstrated that histone deacetylase inhibitors such as trichostatin A and/or related compounds suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) are potential candidates for the treatment of human lupus. This is the first compound identified which modulates the expression of several skewed genes that are associated with immunopathogenesis of lupus. His goal is to develop new therapeutic targets for the treatment and prevention of SLE and its complications atherosclerosis.
