The Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine and WFU’s Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials was featured on the History Channel in a special called “That’s Impossible.”

Dr. Mike Fitch, an emergency physician, was quoted in a USA Today story about migraines.

 

Once Again Ranked as One of “America’s Best Hospitals”

 

News 14 reported on the Medical Center’s recent listing as one of “America’s Best Hosptials” in five categories in the 2009-2010 edition of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News & World Report. Wake Forest Baptist is ranked in respiratory disorders (20th), cancer (26th), kidney disease (26th), urology (41st) and gynecology (46th). 

 

Alcohol and Dementia

 

Dr. Kaycee Sink’s research showing that moderate alcohol intake can reduce the risk of dementia in older adults was featured on CNN, ABCnews.com  and in the Winston-Salem Journal.

Dr. Vaughn McCall was quoted on CNN.com about the prescription of antidepressants vs. sleep drugs to treat insomnia.

 

Manganese in the Environment

 

Dr. John Spangler’s research on the relationship between environmental manganese and cancer deaths appeared in UPI and the Winston-Salem Journal.

 

Kids with Kidney Stones

 

Dr. Steve Hodges was interviewed on Fox 8 about tips to help prevent kidney stones in children.

 

Electroconvulsive Therapy

 

Dr. Vaughn McCall appeared in an article in U.S. News and World Report about electroconvulsive therapy and his recent research on this form of treatment.

Dr. Joseph Skelton appeared on the WXII Noon Show to discuss his recent research on childhood obesity and how it is still a growing concern. He was also interviewed by HealthDay News.

An article on the U.S. News and World Report’s Web site from HealthDay News included quotes from Dr. Michael V. Rocco about research into the benefits of home dialysis for kidney patients.

 

“Just 4 You Day”

 

The Winston-Salem Journal featured an article on the Comprehensive Cancer Center’s recent “Just 4 You Day” that honored cancer patients’ courage, strength and hope while they are fighting cancer.

 

Secondhand Smoke

 

Dr. Mark Wolfson’s research on the high rates of secondhand-smoke exposure among U.S. college students was featured in the Winston-Salem Journal.

Bike Safety

Dr. Alex Powers was interviewed on Fox 8 to discuss the importance of bike safety.
