
Journeys: Navigations for Newly Licensed Nurses is designed to provide support to the new graduate nurse during the first year of employment. The goal of this program is to “bridge the gap” between education and practice by supporting new nurses as they transition into their new professional role. The program consists of two pathways: the Nurse Resident pathway for Baccalaureate (BSN) graduates and the Nurse Intern pathway (ADN) for ) for Associate and Diploma graduates.

Orientation:
General Nursing & Specialty Classes and Structured Preceptor ships
Quarterly Journeys Workshops:
Didactic sessions, Small Group Discussions, Peer Networking,
Simulated Practice
Graduate Nurse Advisor(s)
Quarterly 8-hour workshops are specific to the work area:
Medical/Surgical, Critical Care, or Pediatrics/Neonatal
and consist of topics such as:
•Managing Delivery of Care
•Patient Instability
•Code Blue Review
•Stress Management & Self Care
•End of Life Care
•Shared Governance
•Team Building & Delegation
•Legal & Ethical Issues
•Cultural Competence and Diversity
•Multidisciplinary Communication

Nurse Resident pathway
Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center (WFUBMC) has partnered with University Health-System Consortium (UHC) to participate in the post baccalaureate nurse residency program. This program includes a research study for BSN graduates.
New graduates of the residency pathway are invited to participate in this study. Participants will have email access to the Journey’s Nurse Residency website to communicate with other research participants at other facilities across the nation.
Residents are encouraged to complete an Evidence-Based Practice Project
Nurse intern pathway
The intern pathway for ADN or Diploma graduates offer a series of learning and work experiences designed to facilitate transition into their professional role.
