Professional Development Council
The Professional Development Council defines, implements, and maintains educational standards that promote professional growth and ongoing clinical competency.
The Professional Development Council activities include:
- Facilitates an annual educational needs assessment to determine the educational priorities in conjunction with Staff Development.
- Promotes and facilitates certification/recertification process.
- Defines preceptor roles and responsibilities.
- Promotes nurse participation in nursing professional organizations.
- Participates in nursing recruitment, recognition, and retention programs.
- Reviews and defines the development of competency-based orientation programs and specialty classes as developed by Staff Development.
- Coordinates the Staff Nurse Career Advancement Program.
- Facilitates activities related to Nurses’ Week.
- Coordinates the process for annual generic and unit-specific competencies.
- Promotes the nurse’s professionalism through the support and emphasis of professional practice.
