Professional Development Council

 

The Professional Development Council defines, implements, and maintains educational standards that promote professional growth and ongoing clinical competency.

The Professional Development Council activities include:

  • Facilitates an annual educational needs assessment to determine the educational priorities in conjunction with Staff Development.
  • Promotes and facilitates certification/recertification process.
  • Defines preceptor roles and responsibilities.
  • Promotes nurse participation in nursing professional organizations.
  • Participates in nursing recruitment, recognition, and retention programs.
  • Reviews and defines the development of competency-based orientation programs and specialty classes as developed by Staff Development.
  • Coordinates the Staff Nurse Career Advancement Program.
  • Facilitates activities related to Nurses’ Week.
  • Coordinates the process for annual generic and unit-specific competencies.
  • Promotes the nurse’s professionalism through the support and emphasis of professional practice.
