Office of Technology Asset Management at Wake Forest University School of Medicine

Welcome to OTAM

The Office of Technology Asset Management was originally founded in 1985 as the Technology Transfer Service to manage the intellectual assets of the University and the School of Medicine.

Today, Wake Forest University's new Office of Technology Asset Management (OTAM) works with university faculty, students and staff to commercialize novel discoveries and other intellectual property developed at, or in cooperation with, Wake Forest University and the Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Our objective is the development of new products and services that may benefit the public through technology transfer. Commercialization may be through licensing to existing companies or through the creation of new businesses. OTAM works closely with industry, community leaders, scientists, investors, entrepreneurs, and many others to accomplish its commercialization objectives.

OTAM's activities help to enhance public benefit from the results of basic, clinical and applied research, stimulate the local and regional economy, and generate financial return for the university for reinvestment in the research enterprise. The inventors or developers of the intellectual property receive recognition and share in the revenues generated from the successful commercialization of the intellectual property they develop.
