Intraperitoneal Hyperthermic Chemotherapy (IPHC)

Intraperitoneal hyperthermic chemotherapy (IPHC) is a surgical procedure performed at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center and other medical centers around the country for patients with tumors involving the abdominal wall. Traditionally, patients with ovarian or gastrointestinal tumors that had spread to the abdominal walls had a very poor prognosis. During IPHC, a heated chemotherapy solution is circulated throughout the abdominal cavity as the tumors are removed by the surgeon. Wake Forest University School of Medicine, through Drs. Brian Loggie and Dr. Peter Fleming, is the developer of the IPHC procedure and has licensed certain know-how related to the procedure to ViaCirQ Inc.
