Dr. Linda Porrino is a Professor in the Department of Physiology & Pharmacology.  Dr. Porrino’s research focuses on visualizing the effects of chronic drug use in the brain.  She utilizes both in vitro and in vivo imaging methods to measure functional activity in both humans and nonhuman primate models of drug abuse.  She has four primary research grants for which she is either PI or Project Director.  These include the Center for the Neurobiological Investigation of Drug Abuse for which she serves as scientific director.  Her most recent work involves studies of the effects of medications used for the treatment of attention deficit disorder in an animal model.  She demonstrates her commitment to the Department and University by serving an active member of the GCRC Advisory Board and an active researcher in that program.  She serves as chair of the Recruitment, Retention, Promotion and Tenure Committee, the Radiation Safety Committee, and is and the Academic Imaging Advisory Board.  Dr. Porrino is now a member of the National Advisory Council on Drug Abuse and she serves on the advisory boards of NIH sponsored Center grants at Yale, Harvard and Duke University.  In addition, she is editor in chief of Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Neuroscience.   She is frequently invited to present her findings at numerous national and international meetings and regularly give presentations at other institutions. Her productivity is evidenced with scientific publications and the ability to seek and maintain extramural funding.
