APPLICATION INFORMATION
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION IS 12:00 p.m. on MONDAY, MARCH 16, 2009.
NOTE: Please e-mail application and cover page to msrp@wfubmc.edu.
To begin the application process, select a research area and faculty sponsor. The research areas linked below represent the primary research mentors for this program. It is your responsibility to contact one of these faculty mentors.
If you cannot find a research mentor from among these lists, but can identify another faculty mentor with a research project with whom you would like to work, you must obtain prior approval from Dr. Paul Laurienti. A faculty member may supervise no more than two medical students at one time.

FELLOWSHIP REQUIREMENTS
- Attend weekly noon seminars on topics related to research, research ethics, and translational science. Seminars will be held on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. from June 10 - July 29.
- Upon completion of your fellowship, you are required to prepare a poster to present your research findings at Medical Student Research Day (October 14, 2009). The abstract of this poster also will serve as the final report for your research fellowship. The Office of Student Affairs will be advised of the completion of your research project so that your research experience can be included as part of your academic record.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
- For second, third, and fourth year students it is necessary to arrange with Dr. Reifler an appropriate modification of your clinical rotation schedule to allow 10 consecutive weeks for research.
- Individuals interested in completing research at an external institution must get approval prior to submitting the fellowship application. Due to limited program funds, proposals for research conducted at Wake Forest will have first consideration.
To request approval for external research, applicants will need to identify a faculty member at another institution willing to sponsor the 10 consecutive week research experience. The potential rotation must be approved by the director of the MSRP (Dr. Laurienti). Prior to approval, a letter of support, an NIH biosketch from the potential sponsor, and a plan for training in ethical research practices will be required.
If approved, applicants will need to add an additional section to the research proposal to outline why you want to do research at another institution, the benefit of doing the research at the institution, and why it cannot be completed at Wake Forest.
For further information, contact Dr. Paul J. Laurienti (plaurien@wfubmc.edu) or Anita Pulley (apulley@wfubmc.edu).
