Statement of Objectives
The overall objective of the Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center Urology Residency program is to train highly skilled, knowledgeable, and compassionate urologists equally prepared for careers in clinical practice or academia. As such, the five-year educational program is designed to meet the requirements for certification by the American Board of Urology and prepare the physician for the practice of urology or for further subspecialty training and a career in academic urology.
Applicants must have graduated from an approved medical school and are considered competitively through the American Urological Association Urology Residency Matching Program and the National Residency Matching Program. We rotate between appointing two (2009) and three (2010) house officers each year to the surgical residency program as pre-urology residents. It is a requirement of our urology residency program that the PGY-1 level resident be trained in general surgery at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
