Anesthesia Interest Group | Welcome- | | |
| | Executive Board AIG Spotlight- from ASA Newsletter | “Anesthesia- saving lives one crossword puzzle at a time” This was a joke written on my Facebook page by a good friend. As funny as this comment was, it serves as an example for the need of interest groups such as AIG to provide greater information on this specialty. Secondary to the limited experience medical students often have with Anesthesia, Wake Forest’s chapter of AIG is dedicated to increasing their exposure and opportunity in this great field. In order to achieve this goal, our group has hosted several events for the school year including the development of an IV clinic. Each month two medical students are assigned to the outpatient pre-op clinic where they learn and practice how to start an IV. We have gotten great feedback on the clinic and hope to continue to help students learn this simple but important skill. In addition to our IV clinic, we are planning an airway clinic in the simulation lab and have hosted a luncheon to welcome the class of 2012 and a residency information session for our fourth years which was attended by our chairman, past and present residency director and the residency coordinator. Wake’s AIG is greatly supported by our Anesthesia department which is committed to assisting medical students any way they can. | Mission | The Anesthesiology Interest Group (AIG) will endeavor to educate students about the exciting profession of anesthesiology from a perspective that is not routinely covered within the medical school curriculum. In doing so, the Wake Forest University School of Medicine AIG will offer discussions on topics pertinent to the field, maintain a mentorship program, represent our program at the ASA national meeting, aid students in the match process, and offer “hands-on” experiences to learn about procedures and skills commonly utilized in the profession of anesthesiology.
