Wake Forest EM Affiliates with Moses Cone Health System
The Department of Emergency Medicine of Wake Forest University School of Medicine and Guilford Emergency Physicians (GEP) have agreed to create a unique community and academic partnership for clinical emergency care and graduate medical education.
GEP is a 24-member emergency medicine physician group that has staffed the emergency departments for Moses Cone, Wesley Long and Annie Penn hospitals for 26 years. These physicians, plus 16 mid-level physician assistants and nurse practitioners and four staff members, will join WFU Health Sciences effective May 1, 2009.
With the assistance of Moses Cone Health System administration, the cooperative agreement creates the opportunity for the Department of Emergency Medicine to expand its residency class and for Moses Cone’s Emergency Departments to become the community affiliate training site for our resident training program. The teaching programs will be administered in cooperation with WFU’s emergency medicine residency program leadership.
The cooperative arrangement already has recruited several new physicians for the Emergency Department. They have come from outstanding residency programs and were attracted to this opportunity because of the new organization.
This relationship is an example of the benefits of creating The HealthCare Alliance with Moses Cone Health System. We believe the partnership will benefit the Moses Cone Health System and WFUBMC as we strive to provide the highest quality emergency medical care to our communities.
