Wake Forest Baptist Approach

Everything we do at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center is aimed at giving you rapid care – because the quicker you are diagnosed and treated, the better your likelihood for recovery.

First, patients with heart attack symptoms receive immediate attention at our Emergency Room. Our ER houses the only Level One Trauma Center in the region – meaning specialists are available 24/7 to care for you.

Second, our ER offers the resources of Wake Forest Baptist’s Heart Center – the region’s most comprehensive heart care facility and the first hospital in the region to be designated an Accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Chest Pain Centers.*

Third, by using a multidisciplinary team approach to balloon angioplasty, an emergency treatment for chest pain, our Heart Center doctors now outperform the national standard** - which means quicker treatment for you.

Finally, Wake Forest Baptist physicians have developed a new procedure for predicting heart attacks. By speeding up the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner and creating new software, our medical researchers have made it possible for doctors to see heart movement within seconds after it happens – a vital breakthrough leading to earlier diagnosis and treatment of heart problems.

* According to a study in the Journal of American Heart Association, accredited chest pain centers reduce the mortality rate by 37 percent.

**American Heart Association recommended goal: less than 90 minutes.
Wake Forest Baptist Heart Center average time: less than 68 minutes.
