Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center has been performing cardiothoracic surgery since the 1940s and helped pioneer open-heart surgery in North Carolina. Through the years, Medical Center cardiologists and heart surgeons have made major contributions in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

Adult Cardiothoracic Surgery
We offer the following cardiothoracic surgical procedures for adults:

 

  • Coronary artery bypass - sometimes referred to as CABG, this surgery is done to reroute, or "bypass," blood around clogged arteries and improve the supply of blood and oxygen to the heart.
  • Valve replacement and repair
  • Pulmonary resections
  • Great vessel surgery
