Women’s Heart Health
Are you aware that women have the same risk for heart disease as men?
Heart disease is the number one cause of death for men and women; yet, women traditionally believe their risk of death from breast cancer is more likely.
Warning signs for a woman experiencing a heart attack may differ from a man’s and are more likely to be ignored. Fatigue, nausea or vomiting, heartburn, atypical chest pain, back or jaw pain, accompanied with sweating are all symptoms a woman may have during a heart attack. The classic symptoms of crushing chest pain with radiation to the neck and jaw, profound sweating, and shortness of breath don’t always occur in women.
The Heart Center has recently implemented a Women’s Heart Health Program to educate people about the uniqueness of women’s symptoms and improve access to care and treatment.
The new program will provide cardiac screenings, education to the medical community, as well as outreach education for community groups.
