Laura H. Bachmann, M.D., MPH 

Dr. Bachmann trained in Internal Medicine, Infectious Diseases, and Public Health (Epidemiology) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with an emphasis on STD and HIV research. Dr. Bachmann has spent over a decade evaluating and managing male and female patients in STD clinic settings as well as serving as an HIV primary care provider for male and female patients, including pregnant HIV-infected females. While in Alabama, Dr. Bachmann was the Medical Director and Principal Investigator for the CDC-sponsored Alabama/North Carolina STD/HIV Prevention Training Center (PTC), serving the states of Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma.  Since her move to North Carolina, she continues to work with the AL/NC STD/HIV PTC to expand and enhance clinical STD training for providers across NC and the surrounding states.  Dr. Bachmann’s research interest relates to broad aspects of STD/HIV control including the training of health care providers in the clinical management of STD/HIV, screening individuals for STD/HIV in clinical and non-clinical settings and secondary HIV transmission prevention.  Dr. Bachmann has a joint appointment with the WG Hefner Medical Center (Veterans Administration Medical Center) and is actively pursing research related to STD/HIV control in the veteran population.

Dr. Bachmann is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.
