Provider Course
Course Description
The two day ACLS Provider Course utilizes small group learning stations to promote the concepts of cardiovascular care. In the learning stations participants will practice essential skills and learn essential ACLS concepts. Participants will receive training in effective team skills a vital part of the resuscitative effort and will have the opportunity to practice as a team member and a team leader.
Course Objectives
Ø Recognize and initiate early management of conditions that may result in cardiac arrest or complicate the resuscitation outcome
Ø Demonstrate proficiency in providing BLS care, including providing effective chest compressions and integrating AED use
Ø Manage cardiac arrest until return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC), termination of resuscitation, or transfer of care
Ø Identify and treat patients with acute coronary syndromes
Ø Recognize life threatening situations, such as stroke, and provide effective initial care and transfer to reduce disability and death
Ø Demonstrate effective communication as a member of a resuscitation team and recognize the impact of team dynamics on overall team performance
Prerequisites
Ø Participants must provide a copy of a current BLS (CPR) provider card
Ø Participants must have a working knowledge in rhythm interpretation and cardiovascular pharmacology
Ø Participants must obtain a copy of a current ACLS Provider Manual (available in bookstore)
Ø It is strongly recommended that participants complete the pretest (on the CD included in the ACLS Provider Manual)
Course Completion
Ø Megacode testing station – Demonstrate appropriate ACLS skills and concepts in a simulated cardiac arrest scenario
Ø Closed book written exam – Score a minimum of 84%
