Instructor Course
Course Description
The one day BLS Instructor Course utilizes small group learning stations to review current concepts of teaching cardiovascular care. In the learning stations, participants will review essential skills and BLS concepts, receive instruction on BLS equipment use, and practice teaching a case presentation. Participants will also receive training in American Heart Association expectations for instructors.
Course Objectives-
Ø Demonstrate proficiency in current BLS skills and concepts
Ø Demonstrate proper function, use, and cleaning of BLS teaching equipment
Ø Demonstrate ability to teach BLS concepts in a small group setting
Ø Demonstrate ability to evaluate students fairly and provide appropriate remediation as needed
Ø Discuss Community Training Center and American Heart Association expectations for BLS instructors
Prerequisites-
Ø Completed Instructor Candidate Application indicating your instructor commitment, your acceptance to and AHA Training Center, and your verification of Instructor Potential.
Ø Current AHA CPR (BLS) Healthcare Provider card (include a copy of front & back of cards with registration).
Ø Completion of the AHA online Core Instructor Course (will be sent with your packet after acceptance to the course).
Ø Participants must obtain a copy of a current BLS Provider Manual (available in bookstore)
Ø Must obtain a score of 90% or better on a valid AHA BLS exam on the day of the instructor class.
Course Completion
Ø Mini-teaching station – Demonstrate teaching appropriate BLS skills and concepts in a simulated classroom scenario
Ø Satisfactory participation in all sections of the instructor course
