Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, is a progressive neuromuscular disease of the brain and spinal cord. ALS affects upper and lower motor neurons, the nerve cells that control voluntary movement.

The ALS Center of Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center was established in March of 1998. The center utilizes a multidisciplinary approach to provide patients with a comprehensive evaluation and treatment plan aimed at maximizing functionality and quality of life.

In this site, you will find more information about the Medical Center's ALS clinic, facts about the disease and diagnosis process, research developments, area support groups, and links to other web sites on ALS.

The WFUBMC announces the Keri B. Still Conference on ALS for November 14th, 2008.  This conference will focus on the day to day care of ALS patients and will meet the needs of professional and non-professional ALS caregivers.
