Pediatric Neurology Residency Program
Dear Applicant:
Thank you for your interest in the Pediatric Neurology Residency Program at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. We offer an accredited program steeped in educational excellence and exposure to all aspects of neurologic care and research. The pediatric neurology program utilizes the expertise of personnel from Wake Forest University School of Medicine and North Carolina Baptist Hospital.
We offer one pediatric neurology residency positions per year. The residency is a five year categorical program that includes a PGY-1 & 2 year in the Department of Pediatrics at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. A separate interview with the Department of Medicine is not required; however, you may have an opportunity to meet with the program director and chief resident if you come to interview.
We accept applications from the San Francisco Match service only. Information is on their website http://www.sfmatch.org. Each application must contain three letters of recommendation in addition to the Medical Student Performance Evaluation (the Dean’s Letter) which will become available from your school through the SF Match system on November 1st. The minimum USMLE score to be considered for an interview is generally a 2-digit score of 80. Foreign medical graduates must be eligible for ECFMG certification and have obtained certification prior July 1, 2010 and have passed USMLE Step 1. Additional information may be obtained by visiting the ECFMG website. The institution sponsors J-1 visas only which you must have at the time of your application. Based upon the strength of the overall application, some candidates with lower USMLE scores may be considered as well. In addition, international medical graduates must have some amount of clinical medical experience in the United States or Canada, preferably at least a year, to be considered for an interview. Not all applicants are invited for an interview, but the most competitive candidates will be invited for a formal interview. Applications will be reviewed as they become available in the SF Match system and candidates will be invited in the order they are received and reviewed. The deadline for the application to be received from San Francisco Match is November 1st. Applicants are encouraged to complete their application as soon as possible since earlier invitations to interview will allow for greater flexibility in scheduling and there are limited interview slots available.
Thank you again for your interest in our program. If you have any specific questions not covered above, please feel free to contact Diann Holland, Residency Program Assistant, at 336-716-2317 or dholland@wfubmc.edu.
