Our program is known for production of high-quality graduates. Here, Program Director Michael Rieker congratulates two graduates who were the recipients of the Dean's Recognition Award at UNCG graduation.

 

Students interact with distinguished faculty from across the country using our videoconference facility.

The February, 2006 issue of the AANA Journal featured a cover photo of director, Michael Rieker inserting an epidural on an obstetric patient. Dr. Rieker teaches the classroom and clinical OB anesthesia course, and delivers professional lectures on OB anesthesia topics.

 

At the AANA national meeting, the AANA Journal's exhibition booth displayed the June, 2007 Journal cover which featured WFUBMC Student Renea Shore and Clinical Instructor Rich Griner in the operating room of our pediatric hospital. Courtney Vick teaches OR nurses about anesthesia in the Certified Nurse Operating Room course.

Program Director Dr. Michael Rieker with alumni, Mrs. Sandra Ouellette (President of the International Federation of Nurse Anesthetists) and Mrs. Ruth Holleman. Mrs. Ouellette and Mrs. Holleman have both established scholarships in their names to support Nurse Anesthesia Education.

     

In preparation for the academic year, faculty members attend a summer retreat to brush up on adult learning theory, presentation techniques, and multimedia teaching tools.

The AANA annual meeting provides students and faculty with valuable educational and networking opportunities.

Active learning strategies are used, such as in this student-led presentation.

Courtney Brown lectures on pain transmission and treatment to an audience of 300 at the AANA national meeting.

AANA past-president Terry Wicks instructs students in nerve block techniques of the arm.

Faculty members use an interactive audience-response system to discuss clinical teaching scenarios during a clinical faculty development retreat.

Students learn the physics and mechanics of anesthesia delivery devices in our skills lab.
