Research Area: Neural Mechanisms of Learning, Memory and Cognition. Investigation of cellular, systems and behavioral bases including effects of abused drugs on these processes.

Brief Summary of Research: Over thirty years of research devoted to understanding the neurobiological bases of learning and memory with emphasis on the role of the hippocampus and related structures. Results have been applied to understanding how substance abuse alters information processing by the hippocampus and related structures. Techniques range from in vitro cellular investigation of mechanisms responsible for synaptic plasticity, to functional brain imaging in laboratory animals.
