Stephen R. Rapp, PhD

Biographical Sketch

Dr. Rapp is a tenured Professor and the Chief of the Psychology Section in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine at Wake Forest University School of Medicine. He holds joint appointments in the departments of Public Health Sciences and Dermatology. Dr. Rapp is a Fellow in the American Psychological Association and Gerontological Society of America. Dr. Rapp completed his graduate training as a clinical psychologist at West Virginia University (1978-1982), followed by a clinical internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center/Jackson VAMC Consortium (1982-1983), and later a National Research Service Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at Yale University School of Medicine (1989-1990). Dr. Rapp was on the faculty at the University of Mississippi Medical Center/Jackson VAMC where he served as the Director of Behavioral Gerontology for 8 years until joining the faculty at Wake Forest University School of Medicine in 1990. Dr. Rapp’s current research interests bridge geropsychology and health psychology.
