Carolyn Austin

A native of Summerfield, North Carolina, Carolyn originally became interested in the field after attending a job fair at East Carolina University. She graduated from ECU with a B.S. in Health and Human Performance with a Leisure Studies Option.  In 2001 Carolyn graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with a Master’s in Healthcare Administration.

Carolyn began her career at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in 1996 and has over ten years of experience in the field of Recreation Therapy. She is the senior staff in the Sticht Center Aquatic's Program and sees clients for individual therapy as well as leading group classes and Learn to Swim for children.  Carolyn is also involved in Six Sigma at WFUBMC and is earning her Green Belt Certification.

Carolyn’s past experiences in the medical center include the transitional care unit, acute rehabilitation, adult psychiatry and child/adolescent psychiatry.
Carolyn continues to present “Aerobics of the Mind” for Best Health and various other community organizations.  

Carolyn is a licensed Recreation Therapist at the state level (LRT) and holds her national certification (CTRS). She is a member of the North Carolina Recreation Therapy Association (NCRTA) where she is President-Elect. 

Carolyn's hobbies include gardening, scrap booking, and spending precious time with her three children.
