Recreation/Activity Therapy:- Provision of individualized assessments to collect systematic, comprehensive and accurate data necessary to determine a course of action and subsequent individualized treatment plan. The staff seek the patient's and family's collaboration in generating baseline data that identifies the patient's strengths and limitations in the functional domains (physical, cognitive, social, behavioral, emotional and leisure).
- Provision of appropriate intervention strategies to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Intervention may include stress management, assertiveness training, psycho-emotional support, leisure education/counseling. Increased cognitive/physical functioning, family support/education, and community reintegration, opportunities for social interaction, relaxation training and sensory/environmental stimulation. A variety of programs to meet the patient's treatment plan (such as Anger Management, Pet Therapy. Adventure Based Challenge and Rational Emotive Therapy) may be offered based on collaboration with the patient, family members and treatment team.
- Provision of recreation facilities and activities that are designed to improve the general health and well-being of patients/families and their adjustment to health care environment and treatment procedures.
- Documentation of program/patient evaluations which enables staff and other members of the treatment team to assess patient progress and determine discharge plans.
- Provision of education and training opportunities for staff, students, volunteers and individuals in the community on Recreation Therapy.
- Participation in research activities which serves to foster the body of knowledge available on Recreation Therapy and result in improved patient care delivery.
- Provision of quality improvement program for the purposes of monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of care, identifying and resolving problems and assisting the Medical Center in meeting accreditation standards.
