FAST FACTS

Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program

The CARF Accredited Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center serves patients age 13 and older needing comprehensive and intensive rehabilitation. The Program serves over 400 patients, annually, with a wide variety of conditions as illustrated to the right. Patients benefit from the expertise of our rehabilitation team and intensive training for patients, families and caregivers. An individualized care plan is developed for each patient based on the goals of each patient and family.  Patients participate in at least three hours of therapy each day.

The Inpatient Rehab Program measures its achievements on an ongoing basis through information provided by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSmr).  By participating in this database, the Rehab Program is able to compare patient outcomes with other rehabilitation facilities throughout the region and nation.

Patient Outcomes

FIM (Functional Independence Measure) is a numerical score that reflects the amount of care a patient requires at any given point during recovery.  FIM Gain represents the amount of improvement in functional independence the patient gains during the rehabilitation stay.  Length of Stay efficiency is the degree of FIM gain for each day the patient in is the rehabilitation program.
