FAST FACTS
Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program
The CARF Accredited Comprehensive Inpatient Rehabilitation Program at Wake Forest UniversityBaptist Medical Center serves patients 13 years of age and older needing comprehensive and intensive rehabilitaiton. The Program serves over 400 patients, annually, with a veriety of conditions as illustrated below. Patients benefit from the expertise of our rehabilitation team and intensive training for patients, families and care givers. An individualized plan of care is developed for each patient based on goals of each patient and family. Patients participate in at least three hours of therapy each day.
The Inpatient Rehab Program measures its achievements on an ongoing basis through information provided by the Uniform Data System for Medical Rehabilitation (UDSmr). By participating in this database, the Rehab Program is able to compare patient outcomes with other rehabilitation facilities throughout the region and nation.
FIM (Functional Independence Measure) is a numerical score that refllects the amount of care a patient requires at any given point during recovery. FIM Gain represents the amount od improvement in functional independence the patient gains during the rehabilitation stay. Length of Stay efficiency is the degree of FIM Gain for each day the patient is in the rehabilitation program.
Patients in the WFUBMC Rehab Program gained greater independence in the same or shorter amount of time than patients in other rehabilitation facilities in our region. During 2008, 81% of WFUBMC Rehab patients achieved their functional improvement goals.
The ability to return to home and the community is an important outcome of Rehabilitation. The WFUBMC Rehab Program discharges more patients back to the community than other facilities in the region.
