Neurorehabilitation Therapy Center

Wheelchair Seating Clinic

To help patients of all ages who rely on wheelchairs for mobility, the Medical Center offers a Wheelchair Seating Clinic in the Outpatient Neurorehabilitation Therapy Center at Comp Rehab Plaza.  The goal of the clinic is to help people secure seating systems that optimize their mobility while ensuring safe and effective positioning.  A physical therapist experienced in seating and positioning for people with disabilities, evaluates clients to determine their functional status, medical concerns, positioning needs and environmental and social issues related to seating.  Current seating systems are evaluated, and clients often can try other options-- including different wheelchairs, scooters, cushions, strollers and positioning devices.  A rehabilitation technology supplier is at the clinic to offer expert advice on specific seating options.  Trial equipment is available, and the suppliers can acquire the prescribed seating systems.  A rehabilitation nurse, social worker, occupational therapist, assistive technology specialist or rehabilitation engineer can be consulted if needed.
To make an appointment in our Wheelchair Seating Clinic, please call (336) 716-8004.  Physician referrals are required, and physicians are notified of the clinic's recommendations.  Clients should also bring insurance information and their current seating systems to the appointment.
The Wheelchair Seating Clinic is one more way the Medical Center seeks to meet the needs of those we serve.
