Associate Dean for Admissions

The basic function and responsibility of the Associate Dean for Admissions is to develop and administer quality, accessible and cost effective services required for student recruitment and admissions. This position oversees the application, recruitment, and admissions processes as well as providing administrative oversight of the financial aid office. The Associate Dean is supported by an administrative staff and the Committee on Admissions, which is charged with the review and selection of applicants to medical school. The Associate Dean for Admissions also participates in the selection of candidates for joint degree programs, such as M.D. / PhD. She/he interacts closely with the American Medical College Application Service (AMCAS) through the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). She/he participates in the Group on Student Affairs of the AAMC.

The position of Associate Dean for Admissions requires 50% effort. The successful applicant will have a primary appointment in an academic department, division or institute and must participate in the activities of the home department for 50% of her/his effort.  Thus, the new Associate Dean will be required to continue to be active in the academic or clinical missions of the School.

Section Head: We are seeking a nationally recognized Board Certified Medical Geneticist (M.D., Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.) as Section Head at the Associate Professor/Professor level. This is a challenging opportunity for an energetic geneticist with leadership qualities, research expertise and management skills to guide and develop a large and established medical genetics program that emphasizes education, research and service excellence. The successful candidate will be expected to lead the section in the development of an extramurally funded research program in conjunction with the existing initiatives in medical genetics.


MD or MD/PhD Clinical Geneticist: We are also seeking a MD or MD/PhD board certified/eligible Medical Geneticist at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to join the Section on Medical Genetics, Department of Pediatrics. This position will involve teaching, clinical (in-patient consults, out patients clinics and satellite clinics) and a laboratory or clinically based research program in his/her own area of interest.

 The scope of Medical Genetics includes 3 board certified medical geneticists, 4 basic researchers, 3 genetic counselors, and a staff of 40+ personnel with anticipation for growth. Medical Genetic clinical laboratories include: cytogenetics, molecular cytogenetics, maternal serum screening, preimplantation genetic screening/diagnosis, and molecular genetics. There are established clinical and laboratory medical genetic computer network, a Maternal Serum screening program, and a large clinical service. There is excellent interaction and research opportunities with the Departments of Pathology, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Cancer Biology, Molecular Biology, and Centers for Comprehensive Cancer, Human Genomics, Regenerative Medicine and Nutrition. Core research facilities include sequencing, genotyping, imaging and microarray laboratories and a transgenic mouse facility and non-human primate facilities.

Winston-Salem is located in the Piedmont Triad area of western North Carolina. The Blue Ridge Mountains are only 1.5 hours to the west and the beautiful North and South Carolina coasts can be reached in 3-5 hours. The Wake Forest University School of Medicine is affiliated with North Carolina Baptist Hospital (830 beds). MEDICAL DIRECTOR, NEUROREHABILITATION posted March 25, 2008
Wake Forest University Health Sciences in Winston Salem, North Carolina is currently seeking candidates for a Medical Director position within the section of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, program in Neurorehabilitation. Academic rank and appointment will commensurate with skill level, training, clinical and academic experience.

Candidates should be board certified in either Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation or Neurology and be able to demonstrate appropriate experience and training, including a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a collaborative team member providing rehabilitation service in a comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation program. The Medical Director will devote a minimum of 20 hours per week (patient care and administrative time) to the neurorehabilitation program. The Medical Director will participate in preparation and implementation of both CARF and JCAHO accreditation surveys; manage day to day activities and operational issues that require medical leadership; will meet regularly with rehabilitation physicians regarding rehabilitation medical staff issues as well as representatives of other Medical Center departments to participate in strategic and/or operational planning and to address medical staff issues; oversee the decision-making process for admission and continued stay on the inpatient unit; and meet with rehabilitation screening nurses to evaluate referrals.

Childhood Obesity Prevention Researcher posted Jan 23, 2008
The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention in the Division of Public Health Sciences and the Department of Pediatrics, Wake Forest University School of Medicine, invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position (open rank). The successful candidate will be expected to conduct an active program of independent and collaborative research in the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity. We especially invite candidates with an interest in community-based behavioral research who may also have interests in nutrition, physical activity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and minority health/health disparities. The position includes potential for collaboration with a comprehensive, multidisciplinary pediatric weight management program and with an ongoing academic-community partnership focused on childhood obesity prevention and treatment.

The Division of Public Health Sciences has an active group of 54 faculty collaborating in these, and other research areas. Funded research includes etiologic epidemiology, pharmacologic and behavioral intervention studies, community research, and health services research. The Division is ranked second nationally in NIH research funding among similar medical school departments. The Department of Pediatrics has 67 faculty with multiple specialties who collaborate on various research studies, including office-based interventions, obesity prevention and intervention, and complementary and alternative medicine.

Applicants should have a PhD, MD, or other doctoral degree and must have expertise in behavioral medicine/behavioral science. Research experience in other relevant fields such as epidemiology, psychology, health education, medicine, exercise physiology/exercise science, physical education, nutrition, or public health is also welcome. We are particularly interested in experienced researchers and/or individuals with strong training in pediatric obesity-related research. Hypertension/Vascular Research
The Hypertension and Vascular Research Center of the Wake Forest University School of Medicine is seeking a United States Board eligible/certified M.D. to join an internationally recognized program in hypertension and vascular disease as a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor.

The successful candidate will join a Consortium for Southeastern Hypertension Control (COSEHC) designated Cardiovascular Center of Excellence comprised of both clinical and basic science research translational components interwoven with a direct patient care clinic.

The Center has a state-of-the-art non-invasive vascular lab allowing for the early detection of compliance alterations within the vascular system. The candidate will have at their disposal, a CLIA certified core laboratory which performs radioimmunoassay, enzyme-immunoassay, and enzymatic assays with specialized assays for renin-angiotensin system components specific for clinical and research purposes.

Behavioral or Social Scientist – Specialized expertise in survey research methodologies
The Department of Social Sciences and Health Policy in the Division of Public Health Sciences at the Wake Forest University School of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position (rank open). In particular, we are seeking candidates with expertise in methodologies such as: 1) survey sample designs and survey measurement error models, 2) design and use of emerging survey data collection methodologies, and 3) innovations in analytical methodology in survey research. In particular, we are seeking applicants who seek to develop or advance a scientific program of survey research in health within local, regional and national populations, such as in observational and prospective designs. Applicants would work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of faculty whose work focuses on determinants of health, such as lifestyle-based risk factors; health awareness and use of preventive services; adherence to treatment protocols; reducing barriers to health care; identifying health needs in underserved populations; health promoting behaviors; and community-based approaches to health promotion.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree in a field relevant to public health such as health behavior, sociology, communication, psychology, health services research, public policy, economics, political science, or law. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The successful applicant must also possess a broad theoretical knowledge of behavioral and social science models. Candidates for advanced rank must have prior experience in collaborative research in a multidisciplinary setting and a strong publication record. Experience in teaching at the graduate level and a history of extramural funding is highly desirable.

Cancer Epidemiologist: Asst. Professor – Cancer Epidemiology (#8175)
The Department of Epidemiology and Prevention and the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Wake Forest University (CCCWFU) seek a mid- to senior level cancer epidemiologist for a tenure-track faculty position. The successful candidate will be expected to take a leadership role in building a program in cancer epidemiology and will have the opportunity to recruit additional faculty. Opportunities also exist to establish and chair a Section on Cancer Epidemiology and to take a leadership role in the Cancer Control Program.

The successful candidate will participate in an active program in cancer control as part of an NCI-funded Comprehensive Cancer Center. The CCCWFU has a large and dynamic group of faculty in numerous departments collaborating in the areas of cancer prevention, genetic and molecular epidemiology, cancer screening, tobacco control, survivorship, quality of life, complementary and alternative therapies, and health services research. The CCCWFU has a Department of Defense funded Behavioral Center of Excellence, serves as a Community Clinical Oncology Program (CCOP) Research Base, and participates in CALGB trials. The Institution has a Genomics Center with a major focus on the genetic determinants of prostate cancer, and an outpatient General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) funded to support intervention trials. We particularly seek someone who can bridge our Cancer Control and basic science programs and enhance translational research. The Division of Public Health Sciences has over 50 faculty and 250 staff in three departments: Epidemiology and Prevention, Social Sciences and Health Policy, and Biostatistical Sciences, and is ranked first nationally in NIH research funding. Faculty in the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention participate in a broad range of cohort studies, clinical trials, and community- based research in the areas of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and cancer.

Opportunities for collaboration exist with the Genomics Center, Department of Cancer Biology, Maya Angelou Research Center on Minority Health, the Women’s Health Center of Excellence, the Sticht Center on Aging, and the Department of Health and Exercise Science.

The faculty position is offered in the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention and applicants should have a Ph.D., Sc.D., or M.D. with additional training in cancer epidemiology. The Department of Neurology at Wake Forest University Health Sciences is recruiting a Director for their Stroke Program. Neurorehabilitation Fellowship
Starting in July 2007, 2008.One or two year fellowships in Neurorehabilitation are offered by the Wake Forest University Health Sciences.Candidates should have completed a residency in PM&R or Neurology before entering. Fellows participate in the care of inpatients and outpatients with stroke, head injury, multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, and neuromuscular disorders.Inpatients are treated in a state–of-the-art rehabilitation hospital.Multiple elective experiences are available.
