Research Programs

One of the significant areas of research at the J. Paul Sticht Center on Aging and Rehabilitation involves the prevention of age-related cognitive decline.  The Center supports multiple lines of research that identify risk factors for cognitive decline and evaluate interventions to maintain and improve cognitive function.  This research is multi-disciplinary in nature and involves partnerships with Physiology and Pharmacology, Neurobiology and Anatomy, the Neuroscience Program, Biostatistics, Radiation Oncology, Psychiatry, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health and Exercise Sciences, and the Center for Biomolecular Imaging.  Key research areas include:

  • Developing and validating models of cognitive decline that support translational work spanning rodent, primate and human research.
  • Evaluating the role of risk factor modulation (e.g., physical activity, anti-hypertensive medication, glucose control) on the maintenance of cognitive function in older adults.
