The Safe Relationships Division of Family Services, Inc. presents:
Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
Men in our community will march on September 19 to highlight the need to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence in our community.
Each year, men across the world march in honor of their grandmothers, mothers, sisters, wives, daughters, aunts and friends.
The saying goes, "you can't really understand another person's experience unless you've walked a mile in their shoes." Men are participating to show that rape, sexual assault and gender violence are not women's issues alone.
Men must be a part of the solution to end violence! |
|
· First, the men will walk, and then they will "talk the talk." After the walk, men will learn practical strategies to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence form Tony Porter, founder of The National Association of Men and Women Committed to Ending Violence Against Women.
· One in six women will experience sexual violence in her lifetime. The temporary discomfort men feel walking in heels symbolizes the constant discomfort women feel in a society where they are susceptible to acts of sexual violence at any given moment. However, you do not have to wear heels in order to participate.
· We urge men in your organizations, communities of faith and workplace to join us in helping to raise awareness about this issue.
