Social Honoring Recipients of the 2009 Faculty Research Awards in Women’s Health

Join your colleagues to celebrate the recipients of the first WHCOE Faculty Research Awards in Women’s Health.  These awards are designed to reward and encourage the continued pursuit of excellence in women’s health research at WFUHS. 

  • New Investigator Award: Charles E. Wood, DVM, PhD, Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Section on Comparative Medicine
  • Mid-Career Investigator Award: Mara Z. Vitolins, DrPH, MPH, RD, Associate Professor, Division of Public Health Sciences, Department of Epidemiology & Prevention

4:30-5:00: Winners present brief overviews of their research.  Beverages and hors d’oeuvres provided.

Call for Applications: 2nd class of the Career Development Seminar for Emerging Women Leaders (CDSEWL) Program.  The CDSEWL is modeled after national programs for women in academic medicine, is 7 days in total spread out over 7 months.  There are three benefits: 1) the faculty member will not have to travel out of town; 2) the program is spread out over 7 months, causing less interruption in teaching, research and clinical responsibilities; and 3) more women will be able to participate.

Foundation for Women’s Wellness Women’s Health Research Awards Announced

The Foundation for Women’s Wellness announces availability of 2 one-time awards of up to $25,000 each. The Arnhold Women’s Health Research Award is for research on cardiovascular disease in women. The Jane Walentas Women’s Health Research Award is for research on topics concerning the endocrine system and women’s health (including pregnancy, menopause, hormone therapy, and other areas). Applicants for each award should be junior faculty or assistant professor appointment (or equivalent) at the time the award is given. No institutional overhead is allowed. The new AAMC report on faculty salaries:  The "Report on Medical School Faculty Salaries, 2007-2008" is now available. This is the AAMC's 44th review of full-time faculty compensation. The report presents the total compensation attributable to teaching, patient care, or research for more than 85,000 full-time medical school faculty. One-hundred twenty-seven medical schools submitted fiscal year 2008 data for the survey, which covers all sources of compensation: fixed/base salary, medical practice supplement, bonus/incentive pay, and uncontrolled outside earnings. The publication reports total compensation statistics for six faculty ranks across 79 departments/ specialties. The tables provide the 25th percentile and 75th percentile as well as the mean and median for each combination of faculty rank and faculty department/specialty. http://www.aamc.org/publications
