Sex[ism], Identity and Intimacy in a Pornographic Culture: A Powerful Multi-media Presentation October 30th, 7-9pm (Anyone 18 or older is invited to this free event) Presented by WFU Women's & Gender Studies. Facilitated by Dr. Gail Dines, Professor of American Studies and Women’s Studies at Wheelock College and national leader of the Stop Porn Culture Movement. In her powerful multi-media presentation, Dr. Dines uses examples from pornography, magazines, television shows, and movies to explore how femininity and masculinity are shaped by consumer-based, image driven-culture, and the ways that public images spill over into our most private worlds.
 The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine (ELAM) Program for Women has posted on-line a summary of the 2008 ELAM Forum on "Building Diverse and Inclusive Communities in Academic Health Centers." CALL FOR ACTION The October issue of Academic Medicine issue contains a call for papers related to the 100th anniversary of Abraham Flexner's groundbreaking study of American medical education, A Report to the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The Flexner Centenary provides a timely opportunity to look forward to the next 100 years, and a special collection of articles will be published in Academic Medicine early in 2010. Prospective authors are encouraged to submit manuscript proposals for this collection. Proposals should not exceed 500 words, and should be received by Thursday, January 15, 2009, addressed to the guest editor, Richard Gunderman, MD, PhD, Indiana University School of Medicine, 702 North Barnhill Drive, Room 1053, Indianapolis, IN 46202, or to rbgunder@iupui.edu. 
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation has announced a national competition for the Gold Professorship Program. The application deadline is December 30, 2008. The purpose of the Gold Professorship Program is to promote the importance of humanistic medicine and the values of professionalism in medical education. The goal of the award is to honor and support faculty at the Assistant or Associate Professor level who embody these attributes through clinical practice, teaching, and scholarship including research and curriculum development. Up to three (3) Gold Professorships will be announced and awarded in March, 2009
