Breast Care Center

The Breast Care Center is part of our Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only National Cancer Institute designated comprehensive cancer center in western North Carolina. The purpose of the Center is to offer the opportunity for individuals with diseases of the breast to be conveniently seen by multiple specialists during a single visit. The Breast Care Center team consists of surgeons, medical, surgical and radiation oncologists (specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer), radiologists who specialize in mammography, plastic/reconstructive surgeons, a breast care coordinator, genetic counselor and a research study coordinator. The Medical Director of the Breast Care Center is Dr. Ed Levine.

Our primary goal is to decrease the time it takes to diagnose and begin treatment for breast problems, and to reduce the total number of visits to the Medical Center. At the Breast Care Center, on-site pathology frequently allows a disgnosis to be made in minutes. Some patients need only come once to confirm that a serious problem does not exist, while others may need more diagnostic testing and follow-up. We hope to decrease the worry and anxiety associated with breast problems by prompt attention to your needs and concerns.

Located next to the Breast Care Center, Outpatient Radiology offers mammography services for preventative screening as well as following surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy in women with a history of breast cancer.
